Id like to comment on your reply scott please dont take this as an attack just as a curious blogger trying to understand how others think :).

"My stumbling block is Scientists are convinced that our universe began with a massive explosion (often referred to as the “big Bang”) of energy and light."

This is just one of thousands of "Theorys" scientists have come up with to try and explain the origins of the universe, scientists are experimenting and challenging themsleevs everyday to try and understand why we are here through logic and reason they are able to say these things, they never say that they are right science evolves all the time and changes giving me answers and explanations that the bible could never give me. If I were to ask a priest how are the stars formed his reply would probably be "God made it so we could see" now to me thats an extremally boring and dull answer which infact dousent really answer my question at all as apposed to the scientific theorys one being "Stars are formed as huge clouds of dust and gases, mainly hydrogen and helium. This is combination is called nebula .As the dust and gases swirl around they break into clumps and contract because of gravitational forces. As the clumps bump into each other and get collect more dust and gases they get bigger and their gravity becomes stronger. (The gravity holds the star. ) Since gravity is so strong the particles pack in more tightly. After it is hot enough for nuclear fusion to start you get another star." that sure makes more sense to me than a big man pointing and stars appearing.

I dont get how you can become a believer of god becouse "the concept of the “Big Bang” is difficult for me to believe or comprehend" being happy with one theory I.E a big man made everything. for the rest of your life and not challenging yourself to understand everything around being perfecly happy with one thoery when science has given you thousands to choose from or the ability to make your own thoerys why follow the crowd scott? thats my question to you.

I love the fact that I can think of my own theorys and not be complacently happy with everything I read in a book, heck in about 10 million years maybe we might read harry potter and start worshipping dumbledore and fearing voldemort and wishing the great wizard harry potter would come down and save us.

Peace Out

Hey Sarah

I feel that maybe you have been given a hard time by some misguided believers for that i apologise. In regards to your argument it seems that we are at a cross roads because you cannot prove that God doesn’t exist and I cannot provide an argument which will convince all thinking people that God does.
However this does not in any way mean I don’t like many others have good reasons to believe in God. Due to my background I can empathize a little bit with you as I was someone who chose not to believe in a God and was often agitated by those who would force their opinions and beliefs on others.

However now I am a believer! (Whom likes to respect people’s freedom of choice when it comes to beliefs) In attempting to become an atheist I hit a stumbling block that sent me the other way. My stumbling block is Scientist are convinced that our universe began with a massive explosion (often referred to as the “big Bang”) of energy and light. This explosion was the start of everything that exists, the universe and time its self, the concept of the “Big Bang” is difficult for me to believe or comprehend because the same scientists that are so sure it happened can’t explain to me what caused the Big Bang? or what was there before the Universe?
I can’t prove to you that there is a God but the more I look at the universe the more I believe that someone or something had to have designed it, create it, because how could an explosion of light and matter create such perfection? By perfection I mean look at all the different quantum equations of the earth and the universe and how if the earth was slightly closer to the sun it would mean no life on earth. The universe is too exact for me to believe it was created by some cosmic accident so I choose to believe it was designed by a creator
However that doesn’t change the fact that you have as much as a right to not believe as I do too believe.

You don't want to go there either so search the sc...

You don't want to go there either so search the scriptures of the Holy Bible looking for answers to questions you may have about the beginning of life, it says that God created the heavens and the earth, and the stars he made also... and you(book of Genesis), it tells of an amazing adventure that’s in store for those that come to realize the love and the plan that God has for you through Jesus Christ, that He was immortal God and that He came to die on the cross for sinners to pay the penalty for sin that a just God became sin for us became a scapegoat for the ungodly. And He died on that cross, but He conquering sin and death (for the wages of sin is death Rom 5:8) took His life back up again and rose from the dead, bodily. Now if you believe that you'll have eternal life that is knowledge of the Son, and if you have the Son you are free indeed, and He has set you free, if He can do it for me He can do it for you (because I was addicted to the lies of the world, to the lusts of the flesh, basically I was killing myself, and I wanted to die, but all I really wanted to know at that point was the truth. And, then I found Jesus Christ, and I knew what truth was.) So, if you are out there listening and you believe that Jesus Christ is who He said he was then know that the trinity is explained in us that the Father was in Jesus, that Jesus is in the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit indwelleth all those that would confess the Son Jesus Christ as Lord with their mouths and believe with their hearts that God resurrected Him from the dead. And prayer is just communication with God, and it’s important to know that no prayer reaches the Father unless it comes through the Son. So read the Gospel according to John and the book of Romans in the Holy Bible and get to know your Savior and your God. And, on the other hand if you were offended from what I just said, you will be, and if you want to believe in Evolution, in Darwinism, in Science, in Atheism, in Agnosticism, in Post-Modernism, in Buddhism, in Daoism, in Hinduism, in Confucianism, in Shamanism, in Judaism, in Falun-Gong, or in what have you you have the right to as an American to do so so God Bless You.

Give it up for adoption.

Give it up for adoption.

Like abortion... that pretty much does it for me. ...

Like abortion... that pretty much does it for me. I have to vote McCain. I mean look, if you can justify killing a baby than maybe you can vote for Barack Obama in the up and coming election, but I can't. Even if the woman was raped, even if it was incestuous rape, some couples try for years to have a baby... It is a miracle of God, and it takes a male and a female to have a baby, who is the mother to take that life she did not create on her own it took three entities to make that baby! So, what if the baby is going to be still born or whatever... I mean can science even tell if that is going to happen? And does it take nin months to come out in that case? I would assume that if it dies naturally and comes out without the help of an abortion clinic then that is the way to go about that, because then it is not abortion. Anyway, abortion is gross, and I think it is because we have devalued life so much over the last 100 years or so. Think about it the Big Bang Th. states that earth is so insignificant, we are not a priivledged planet just a speck on the grand-scale of things. I mean, I understand a humility in looking at the cosmic size of things and when I envision a God beyond the boundaries of our universe I am humbled, but this stuff being taught in schools is sad and depressing. Evolution, natural selection, there is no purpose in life, when your dead your dead, there is no freewill... You can't tell me that stuff being taught in our science class isn't making it any easier for our youth to have an abortion.

I think from the song's point of view, it is clear...

I think from the song's point of view, it is clear that the view of God is not an all-involved, active, making-things-happen kinda guy (or gal), but simply a passive observer from afar.

If God does intervene, why? The Bible s...

God says that homosexuality is a sin. The Bible says that homosexuality is a sin.

In Romans 3:23 it says:

"for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God"

That's all people not homosexuals only, but heterosexuals also.

One may say that they are sincere, and that God will accept them because they are sincere.

Was Hitler sincere? I think he was (but it didn't save him-if he was saved at all). You see, our understanding of right and wrong may be different from each other.

Is God's standard going to change from one person to the next, because of sincerity? Let me quote Proverbs 14:12

"There is a way which seems right to a man, but the end of it is the ways of death."

A person may then claim some great work, or multiple good works, or even church attendance to achieve eternal life.

However the scripture is plain on this issue.

Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace you are saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

Titus 3:5
not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us...

In fact, repenting from dead works is the first Foundational Principle of Christ, in Hebrews 6:1.

Dead works is, and not limited to: believing and/or doing some work to achieve eternal life.

We must remember, that down in the center of our self we are not good and that our standard of goodness isn't the same as the guy next door, let alone God.

We all must turn away from the idea of pleasing God by doing traditions or rituals of men.

However, some of these things can be God's will, but they alone don't get you salvation, nor mixed with anything other than God's way. I'll quote Jesus in Mark 7:13

making the word of God of no effect through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such things you do."

Another wrong thought or belief of having eternal life is that one may be saved because of their heritage or parents. I am not discussing youth, but those who are of age and can make their own decision.

John 1:12-13

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

Where's the Good News? The good news is this:

John 14:6
Jesus said to him, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life; no one comes to the Father but by Me.

John 10:1
Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter into the sheepfold by the door, but going up by another way, that one is a thief and a robber.
7 ... I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.
9 I am the door. If anyone enters in by Me, he shall be saved...

It is simple to be saved, because Jesus did the work, we don't have to.

Please don't let this simplicity keep you from eternal life.

2 Cor 11:3

But I fear lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve in his craftiness, so your thoughts should be corrupted from the simplicity due to Christ.

He did it(died on the cross for your sins, and rose, bodily from the dead)! This is the faith. Will you trust Him at His word? If He say's it's simple to be saved, will you believe Him?

Perhaps you think you are unworthy. Perhaps you believe your sin was too bad. Paul was an enemy of the church. He persecuted christians and even received their deaths. Yet Jesus met Paul and saved him. God used this man who hated the church to write half of the New Testament. Have you done worse than Paul? Have you persecuted the church to death of a believer? If you have or have not, it doesn't matter, Jesus dies for all sins. If you don't believe He died for your sins you are calling God a liar:

1 John 5:10
The one believing [or, trusting] in the Son of God has such testimony in him; the one not believing God, has made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony which God has testified concerning His Son.

Numbers 23:19

God is not a man that He should lie, neither the son of man that He should repent. Has He said, and shall He not do it? Or has He spoken, and shall He not make it good?

Here is the way of salvation:

John 3:16

For God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Romans 10:9

Because if you confess the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved.

If you want to go to heaven and be saved all you need to do is believe that Jesus IS God, that he died to forgive your sins, and that he rose, in body, from the dead!

Pray and speak the following and believe it in your heart:

"Dear Jesus, I confess and accept you as my Saviour. I believe that you died for my sins. I also believe that God raised you from the dead. Therefore, I believe, I am now saved through faith in what you have done. Lord, I pray this in Your holy name. In JESUS' name Amen."

If you prayed this prayer or received Jesus as your savior through these pages, if you need help in your life, or even if you have any questions please feel free to email me (email address is here ).

What do you need to do now? 3 important first things:

1. Read the Bible
2. Pray as much as possible every day
3. Try to find a church that believes in the whole Bible

Taken from : http://www.kingdom-gospel.com/saved.html

Well, everything did come from God... Truthfully, that is good and evil, and all that is has come from Him and not a thing that was made did not come from Jesus. So common grace is the moral code that we have instilled within us. And do you know any prostitutes? What about drug addicts? Or even a video-game addict or a person addicted to blogging. (j/k) but seriously, these things kill people. Like smoking. (Now this is opinon... but,) I would rather someone break my nose... (hopefully for something I deserved it for like I don't know crossing the line in a hockey game or something, anyway), than to just sit by as I allowed multiple sexual encounters to take place in and with my flesh, and to get high and drunk and devoid of myself without outside influence. OK that may not be worded gracefully but, side-effects aside(including health risks and drug/sex euphoria). All of that would leave people alone, and humilated, empty inside and dependent. If we go after self gratifying means of things we lose ourself altogether, and I ain't talking about being a shady weed smoker or an incosiderate lover. This really... sex?, prostitution? Money has made SOME people miserable, and sex and trying to get rich is like trying to get intimate, but finding false pleasure and depleting yourself of your soul. And if your getting doped up your getting a false sense of spirtuality and self, and you don't need nothing to be yourself.

And, in reality, prostitution and drugs kills people, and gets people killed over. And, just like a bad beatdown it rearranges one's face, and I'm talking about thier countenance. I seen it. I think they get jacked up worse than in a fight if you ask me sometimes... yea.

Sin (Which all of us(except Jesus, the Christ) hav...

Sin (Which all of us(except Jesus, the Christ) have done), is punished with the second death, Hell(lake of fire, real place). His very existence in all of His perfection and Holiness... as radical as this sounds... actually demands worship and exaltation... so we as humans, even Christians are insulting to Him in even the most seemingly; at least to us, subtle ways. But I am not the one to speak of any man's final resting place let alone the second death for example that perhaps Hitler's hell is any hotter than Harry Houdini's because I just don't know. But everybody does and someone who agrees with you on the issues... got it. And also I think people would all agree that if one canidate focuses on certain issues we feel are very important... than even if there is another candidate whom agrees with us on a greater quantity of issues that aren't as important than we as a people are gonna vote for...

So, what it comes down to for me, is like how many issues are we following here? These guys vote on the issues all day its thier job and if they are doing at least a decent job than you can't follow all of the issues, and I don't care how much media coverage the issues recieve. You can't watch C-SPAN 24 hrs a day! and if they are supposed to run our country I think that they stay busy dont you? I was a COBOL programmer for a year and a half and to tell you all the little things I did at work and this and that issue about him and her... and I didn't even work hard you get what I'm saying? It would take you at least three months training just to do MY job so to sit and tell you all about it, for as little as I worked, and then tell you my honest opinons about our company and our system of handling business it'd take like 36 hours... Cause I can talk. Now, granted you might hear 36 hours of politcal mumbo-jumbo between this and that election, and that gives you time to decide but we are given major issues like: War, health care (socialized medicine), abortion, Homsexual marriage/Unions, etc. etc. These define the Democratic and Republican parties right there. Right there is enough to make people vote on way or the other... What about them men and women who go and hit up them voter's polls just to pull a switch for thier party? How is that any different from someone pulling a switch for a canidate with they same religion/faith as them... it's not. Both actions carry with them the fact that people have conceptions that are associated with the canidate immediately after calling themself a Democrat/Republican, a Liberal/Conservative, A Christian/Christian? huh? yea every canidate is claiming that they are one way or another Christian right now, so how do you figure Christians vote for the Christian? Go figure. People vote on what's most important to them. And, what's most important to Christians? The Christian God. At least it should be... So if a guy's out there like: "yea, I put GOD first I am in love with Jesus, I want to free and liberate middle Easterners' because I love my neighbor, I stick by the right to bear arms cause I'd never murder, I am all for national sovereignty, so as much as I love neighbors mexicans best to back off the border, I'M pro-life no more abortion, No gay marriage cause' genetics aren't choices, let's on shore drill up all our resources, and let us not give our babies to stem cell researchers, and lastly I'm am a man not a woman... blah, blah, blah, etc. etc. let's pray for our country I'm a born-again believer VOTE FOR ME..."
I'm like :"he's up there singing a nice song there" I am voting for that guy! But hey, I'm a registered independent and I'm only 23 right now I want to vote for him mostly because: he has a heart for Jesus, he humbly prays and seeks knowledge when he reads God's word, listens for, and knows God's voice, puts his neighbor before himself, is transformed from glory to glory to become more like Jesus, and responds to the desicion-making-process in a way that is glorifying to the Father in Heaven. ... etc. etc. Bottom-line no matter what the issue if you handle it like that, boldy. Why wouldn't I vote for the Christian. Because that's what a Christian is supposed to be...

Well, there is alot to it I guess. These Christians might want to get together and share with each other thier struggles, sure, maybe even doubts about and with thier walk with God. It is like this: friendships are things you should not have a lot of. Why? They take time money and energy to truly develop. So to get to the point: friends can pray with each other -- tell each other the right thing to do in a situation(what did/did not work for them), laugh, and cry with each other, encourage each other and confide in each other and in the Bible together. It creates a sense of family. My friends are family outside of my biological family, people I can trust and rely on. Instead of thinking about me, they pray over me in Jesus' name. So I guess that for many Christians, they would like to go camping with other Christians... You get in where you fit in... you know? If I was a "Christian" who professed a relationship with Christ and I am Camping with a lot of people that do not want to pray & worship, study the Bible, talk about exciting things like eternity, Life/Death, the ressurection of Jesus Christ, etc. than it is not as fulfilling or satisfying to me(I mean what are we gonna talk about video games, television and politics -- BORING). Also, --and I am not saying everyone does this but-- what if were all alone in the woods? People have sex all alone in the woods, teenagers get high all alone in the woods, and drunk too. Now, if I am truly a Christian I might feel almost afraid at times feeling like I am truly alone in the woods... and at that point maybe your right I might turn to the person next to me and want to be more like them regardless of what they're doing... maybe just talking and sharing thier faiths... and if I lose my faith in Christianity then it must not have been faith to begin with, or perhaps my faith will take a backseat because I just want to fit in.

You are clearly clueless regarding God, Christiani...

You are clearly clueless regarding God, Christianity, prayer and possibily life in general. I was caught here reading this comment or novel about the letter t and christians. I can not believe that I have never put the letter t in conjunction with christianity. You are really on to something. I mean do you always find these little things that came from a country based on Christianity so offensive? Can't you just live in peace and stop trying to protest the world. I do not think anyone is using the letter t to offend you unless it is attached to a word like hate! Please take my advice and let it go. Let the christians live their dream, you and I do not have to be a part of that, but we should stop fighting over silly things like letters.

I suppose this is an op/ed/blog, so the rules of f...

I suppose this is an op/ed/blog, so the rules of fair reporting need not necessarily be observed, but you have taken an issue and done what most illogical and jaded people have done: taken an issue you object to and made a caricature out of it. (Not only is that a stupid and foolish statement, it shows how lazy you are in making a point.)
My suggestion: Do some research - find out WHY the Scouts are so insistent regarding the acknowledgment and reverence of a Deity. Could it be that you are so blinded by your own "blind faith" in atheism, you can't let someone else believe what they want without slinging baseless accusations and foolish caricatures? I don't see the Scouts demanding a theistic page on your site, do you? Nor should they. Nor would they.
You have the right to level whatever comments you want: narrow-minded, bigoted, misogynistic, homophobic - but (are you listening?) it's just sloppy name-calling and thoughtless branding unless you can cogently prove or reveal something other than your bias.

I think your being a bit unfair. My mom is actually the head scoutmaster, and there are women at every level of adult leadership. True, we don't have any gays yet, but I am sure when such cases do arise they will be dealt with in a progressive manner. I dont think you can lump all scout troops together, though there are definitely unsavory elements. The basic scout values: truthfulness, kindness, preparedness, comraderie etc, are still good values for the kids. Plus scouting has a long and strong tradition of dedication to conservation, certainly a progressive value.

I am an atheist who will be happy to vote for Cong...

I am an atheist who will be happy to vote for Congressman Paul. More than half of the eligible voters in this country think that a lack of faith is an immediate disqualification for holding public office. While atheists have made some progress against religious tyranny through the courts, we are a small fraction of the population and do not vote as a bloc anyway. It may be a long time before the political climate here welcomes openly nonreligious candidates into the mix at such high-profile offices as that of the President.

Paul isn't pandering to the religious, unlike many of the front runners in each party. His positions are generally informed by his strong understanding of history and economics, and he gives his opinions with enough substance that curious voters can check his sources themselves. I disagree with his anti-abortion and anti-gay marriage stances, but agree with him that these should not be issues for federal laws anyway.

Libertarian views don't seem to be very popular among atheists, particularly secular humanists. Paul wouldn't enjoy much success even if he were openly courting nonreligious voters. Getting him into the presidency is our most realistic chance at disbanding the empire, cutting federal bureaucracy to an appropriate and manageable size, and restoring civil liberties. That means a lot more to me than whether or not he believes in a god.

"Don't worry about anything; instead pray about ev...

"Don't worry about anything; instead pray about everything. I've always thought of this song as an agnostic anthem if not an athiest one.

For example, the song starts off with "From a distance the world looks blue and green
And the snow-capped mountains white"... this looks lovely when you think about it. In the next verse the "there is harmony" from a distance. The following verse puts it in a nutshell: "From a distance we all have enough
And no one is in need
There are no guns, no bombs, no diseases
No hungry mouths to feed" ... once again, all is fine from a distance.

Then the song builds up to the chorus where we are told "God is watching us... [higher again] Go-od is wat-ching us... God is watching us... FRO-O-OM A DIS-TANCE". Now if you read up through the lyrics again and examine what the song is saying you may notice this: if, from a distance, the world looks peaceful and harmonious, without war, without hunger or famine AND God is watching us from this vantage point, then, one would logically conclude, that such a God wouldn't care about us. Nothing seems wrong from where he/she/it is looking so why would such a god care for any suffering on earth. In fact if earth simply looks 'nice' to such a god, then each of the trillions upon trillions of other planets, stars, asteroids and especially galaxies would look equally nice and occupy just as much of his/her/its infinite observation time for an infintesimal fraction of such a gods time!

When I think about it this way it I truly find it to be a beautiful song.

I'm an Eagle Scout that teaches gays, agnostics, a...

I'm an Eagle Scout that teaches gays, agnostics, and women in scouting.
